01 · Welcome

Wishing you a good midterm week

Hi everyone. For a lot of you, this is midterm week, and all of us on the GSC want to wish you the very best with it. Whether you are working through exams, a case write-up, or a team presentation, and whether you are on campus in Wellesley, at Babson Boston, in Miami, or studying online alongside a full-time job, we hope you find a little time this week to rest, eat well, and lean on the people around you.

On Friday night, the full 2026–27 GSC got together. It was a great night as a team, and from all of us, we are sending our very best wishes for your midterms and exams this week. We are rooting for you, and we are here if you need anything.

The 2026–27 Graduate Student Council together at a bowling alley, about twenty members smiling for a group photo in front of the bowling lanes, with the Babson College GSC logo in the corner.

When you need a break, there is plenty on the calendar to give you one. Tonight, the Office of Belonging and Inclusion hosts Culture Fest in Knight Auditorium, with student performances, cultural tables, storytelling, and food from regions around the world. On Saturday, the GSC and BFAT are heading to Shelburne Farm in Stow for apple picking, and partners and families are welcome. And once midterms are behind you, the Office of Graduate Student Life and Leadership hosts Grad Chill on Wednesday, October 28, a wellness fair with free food, prizes, and a visit from Roger, Gracey, and Hero, Babson’s community resource dogs.

Thank you to everyone who came out to last week’s Graduate Fall Career Fair, which more than 150 students attended. Daniel, Akshay, and I were glad to help welcome employers on the day, and the Grad CCD has shared its advice on what to do next, along with a short feedback survey on the fair. You will find both in this week’s calendar section, together with Interview Week, which runs through Thursday.

Everything else happening this week is just below. If you have any questions, reply to this email to reach our team directly!

Tonight · Tuesday, October 20 · Office of Belonging and Inclusion

Culture Fest. Tuesday, October 20th, 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Knight Auditorium. All welcome. All invited. Babson College Belonging and Inclusion.

Culture Fest

6:00 to 7:30 PM · Knight Auditorium · Food from regions around the world

Expect student performances, interactive cultural tables, creative activities, storytelling, and food from regions around the world.

The evening is built around learning from one another, and with graduate students here from so many countries and from every program, we would love to see the grad community well represented in the room. Bring a classmate, a teammate, or a friend from another program.

Two good events at 6:00 tonight. The Alumni Ventures fireside chat with the PE/VC Club and eTower runs at the same time in Van Winkle Hall. Both are in the calendar below, so register for whichever fits your evening.

Saturday, October 24 · GSC Social Series with BFAT

GSC Social Series: Apple Picking at Shelburne Farm, from the Babson Food Club and the Babson College GSC. Join the GSC and the Babson Food and Agriculture Technology Club for a Saturday in the orchard. Pick Honeycrisp and Macoun, grab a warm cider donut, and meet grad students from every program. Partners welcome! Saturday, Oct 24, 2026, 11:00am to 2:00pm. Shelburne Farm, 106 West Acton Road, Stow, MA 01775. Carpools leave from campus at 10:15am. Register now on Engage. Bags are shared (about $10 each), card only, no pets. Photo of people picking apples in an orchard.

Apple Picking at Shelburne Farm

11:00 AM to 2:00 PM · Shelburne Farm, 106 West Acton Road, Stow · Carpools leave campus at 10:15 AM

The GSC and the Babson Food and Agriculture Technology Club (BFAT) are heading to Shelburne Farm in Stow, a family orchard about 40 minutes from campus, for a Saturday of apple picking, hot cider donuts, and a few hours away from your laptop. There are pumpkins in the patch if you want one for your doorstep, hayrides through the orchard, and food trucks on weekends.

Partners and families are welcome, so bring the people who keep you going during midterms. The day is open to graduate students in every program, and it is part of the GSC Social Series.

How it works. Meet us at the farm at 11:00 AM, or join a carpool from campus at 10:15 AM, and tell us on the RSVP whether you can drive or need a seat. We will split into picking groups at the entrance and share bags: a one-peck bag (about 10 lbs) is $32 for up to three people, and a half-bushel bag (about 20 lbs) is $46 for up to five, which works out to about $10 a person. Hayrides are $3 extra.

The farm takes card and Apple Pay only, with no cash and no pets, and the day runs rain or shine, so wear shoes that can handle a muddy orchard row.

08 · One more thing

A little Babson history for exam week. On September 3, 1919, the Babson Institute held its first classes with 27 students. Where did those first classes meet?

In the Babsons’ home

Abbott Road, Wellesley Hills · 1919

In the former home of Roger and Grace Babson on Abbott Road in Wellesley Hills. The Institute ran those first classes like a business: students wore professional attire, kept regular business hours, and punched in and out on a time clock. Each had an office desk with a telephone, typewriter, adding machine, and Dictaphone, and personal secretaries typed their assignments. Today’s study rooms have no time clock, but the business hours of midterm week may feel familiar.

Painting of the Babsons’ home on Abbott Road in Wellesley Hills, a large pale yellow colonial house with a gambrel roof and two brick chimneys, set on a green lawn among trees.
