Roger's Pub & Grille. Round two of the GSC Social Series comes to campus. Grad students, alumni, faculty and staff: grab a drink at Roger's Pub, catch up with classmates, and meet Babsonians from other programs. First drink is on the GSC for the first 50 grad students, and soft drinks count. October 7. Hosted by the Babson Graduate Student Council.

Tonight · Tuesday, October 6 · A GSC and SGA event

Founder & Speaker Series, Lecture #1: Tobias Donath '04, Head of Go-to-Market & Strategy, Institutional Wealth Management Services, Fidelity Investments. Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Doors open 6:30 PM, fireside 7:00 PM, networking 8:00 to 8:30 PM, Winn Auditorium, light refreshments provided. An intimate fireside chat about control vs. growth, why everything runs on relationships, and what he looks for when hiring. Logos: SGA, GSC, PE/VC Club, Babson Graduate Finance Club, BFA.

Founder & Speaker Series | Installment One: Tobias Donath '04

7:00 to 8:30 PM · Winn Auditorium · Free and open to the Babson community · Light refreshments

In 2004, Tobias Donath won Babson's Muller Competition with The Artisan Bread Company. Two decades later, he leads go-to-market and strategy for Fidelity Investments' Institutional Wealth Management Services, the business that equips wealth management firms with the investment, technology, and platform solutions they use to serve clients and grow. Along the way he started his career in his own family's business, earned his MBA at IMD in Switzerland, and built Fidelity's family engagement practice before moving into strategy.

On the agenda: carrying an entrepreneurial mindset from founder into a large enterprise, what family business teaches about leadership, money, and hard conversations, how AI and time allocation are reshaping wealth management, and the career paths he would take today, including what he looks for when hiring.

The first installment of a new series. The evening opens our Founder & Speaker Series, which we are hosting with the undergraduate Student Government Association to bring Babson's undergraduate, graduate, and alumni communities into one room. Expect 35 minutes of moderated fireside conversation, 15 minutes of audience Q&A with undergraduate and graduate questions alternated, and then networking over light refreshments.

It is especially useful if you are weighing whether to build your own thing, join a large company, or find a way to do both. Space is limited, so please RSVP.

08 · One more thing

A little Babson history. With the HarbourVest Economic Forum coming up next week and its look at where the economy is heading, here is a forecast with our founder's name on it. On September 5, 1929, Roger Babson warned a business audience that a crash was coming. What did Wall Street call the sharp drop that followed that afternoon?

The Babson Break

September 5, 1929

The Babson Break. Roger Babson, who founded Babson College in 1919, told the audience that “sooner or later a crash is coming, and it may be terrific.” Stocks fell sharply that afternoon, and the drop took his name. Less than two months later, the Great Crash of late October 1929 arrived.

Chart of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in 1929, marking the Babson break in early September, the initial decline, a rebound, and the October crash, with an initial loss from the peak of 49 percent by November.
